The Comprehensive Counseling and Guidance program model has been adopted and implemented in all middle and high schools with the State of Utah. In this model, counselors spend 80% of their time providing a proactive program to 100% of the student body. As students move through the educational school system, counselors help them gain competencies in the areas of self-awareness, educational and occupational exploration, and career preparation. Information developed and skills learned in these areas are used to create individual Student Education Plans (SEPs) or Student Education Occupational Plans (SEOPs). These plans are used to recognize student accomplishments and strengths, and to plan and monitor education and career development. Students leave school with the skills, information, training and experiences to pursue their life and career goals.
With the Comprehensive Counseling and Guidance Program, Counselors:
• Impact all students in powerful and effective ways to the importance or career decision making and planning for life after high school
• Encourage and assist each student in developing an SEP or SEOP
• Provide opportunities for student growth in the areas of self-knowledge, educational and occupational exploration, and career development
• Involve the school, the home, and the community
